Chancroid is a bacterial infection that can appear similar to Syphilis.
What is it?
A bacterial infection. While similar in appearance to syphilis it is important to make a distinction as they are treated differently.
Chancroid is normally passed on through sexual contact.
What are the symptoms?
The most common symptoms is a painful genital ulcer. Usually the ulcer is solitary but certain cases may have more than one. It can appear anywhere over the genital region.
Chancroid is easily treated with a short course of antibiotics. Once given the symptoms should subside within a week.
