3rd generation tests have been around for a long time. They can be performed as rapid or lab tests.
Rapid tests are available as a rapid fingerprick or oral swab test while the lab test is a standard blood test. Each are equally accurate when used at the right time.
These type of tests only look for the HIV antibody (which is your immune response to the virus) which peaks and maintains at 3 months or more from exposure. They will stay with you lifelong.
This means the tests are only accurate from 3 months from exposure but are good as general screening tools. These are the type of tests the government will use for work pass/PR screening.
