Chemical peels are a quick, safe, and cost effective way at giving your face a better glow without needing invasive surgical procedures.

What does it involve and what can it be used for?

Chemical peels involve an acid lotion that is gently applied to the face to cleanse away the top layer of the skin, known as the epidermis. Once this is done the skin begins to heal and new skin is formed producing a brighter, smoother appearance.

Chemical peels can also be used in the management of acne as well as acne scars. Acne often forms because of blocked pores on the skin, which can be cleared by chemical peels and cleansed. Scarring produced by acne can also be lessened by encouraging the skin to heal and form naturally.

How is the procedure performed?

The first step is a consultation on suitability and expectation from the procedure itself. Once that has been done the actual procedure can start.

The face is cleansed with a special lotion before the acid peel is applied. It is left on for a maximum of 3 minutes or when the skin starts to appear red, whichever comes first.

Next the neutraliser is applied to remove the acid. A cold towel is used to clean the remaining excess and soothe the skin as well.

The last step is to apply a vitamin C based skin to help collagen formation and then a hydrating lotion is applied. Before leaving the clinic, sun cream is also applied.

Usually you will be given a variety of different creams based on skin type that must be used regularly to maximise the effect of the chemical peel.

How often can this be done?

Superficial peels can be performed once a month and we recommend this timing for the greatest benefit.

So if you are looking for a simple but effective way to improve the appearance of your skin, look no further than a chemical peel!

The peel itself as well as 3 creams/lotions; AHA* facial wash (100ml), AHA Solution 8 (100ml), Ultralight Hydrator (50g) are given for after procedure care.

All products are from TDF (Therapeutic Dermatologic Formula) as seen in the picture below.

*AHA = alpha hydroxy acid
