Chancroid, a bacterial infection, bears a resemblance to syphilis in appearance but necessitates a clear distinction as the treatment approaches differ significantly.
Chancroid is primarily transmitted through sexual contact, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing it from other similar infections.
The most common symptoms is a painful genital ulcer. Usually the ulcer is solitary but certain cases may have more than one. It can appear anywhere over the genital region. This differs from Syphillis which is typically painless.
Chancroid responds well to a short course of antibiotics, ensuring a quick resolution of symptoms, usually within a week.
