ATLAS
Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma, belonging to the same bacterial family, commonly manifest in the genital region, with Mycoplasma Hominis and Ureaplasma Urealyticum being the prevalent types.
While these bacteria can exist in normal, healthy individuals, they may lead to genito-urinary symptoms, such as abnormal discharge in women and burning during urination in men.
Direct testing, involving vaginal swabs for women and urine testing for men, is the most effective method to identify their presence. Treatment is administered when symptoms are present, but asymptomatic infections may be monitored without intervention.
The standard treatment entails a course of antibiotics. Testing labs assess the sensitivity of the bacteria to different antibiotics, aiding in selecting the most effective treatment from the outset.
